Meet the Future of Banking: Spotlighting our BOS Summer Interns

Meet five driven students who jumped into real projects, built key skills, and got a front-row seat to the world of banking. Their stories are inspiring, insightful, and a great look into the future of finance.

At BOS, our internship program gives students real-world experience and insight into the banking industry while allowing them to grow professionally. This year, we had the pleasure of working with five talented interns, Jake H., Will H., Grant T., Malari S., and Joey S., Each brought a unique perspective, a willingness to learn, and a strong desire to contribute. 

     


   

Jake H. - Business Services Intern

Major: Finance | Year: Junior

As a student-athlete balancing basketball and academics, Jake brought both discipline and drive to his internship with the Business Services team. This summer, he focused on documenting and examining internal processes to help improve efficiency across the department.

"I wanted to experience the environment and day-to-day work that goes on." - Jake H.

His Role: Jake’s attention to detail helped streamline internal workflows and ensure better documentation across the Business Services department. By observing team operations and gathering input from multiple departments, he contributed to improving internal communication and process clarity, a key step toward long-term efficiency.

Highlights of His Role:

  • Reviewed and documented Business Services processes and workflows
  • Observed team operations to gain a deeper understanding of business support functions
  • Engaged with staff across departments to learn how each piece fits into BOS’s broader mission

Career Outlook: Jake is still exploring his career path but is focused on building a meaningful life, one that allows him to support his future family while doing something he enjoys.

Will H. - Commercial Lending Intern

Major: Finance | Year: Junior

Will spent his summer with the Commercial Lending team, where he worked closely on loan documentation and learned the ins and outs of finance operations in a professional setting. His goal was to get practical experience, and he made the most of it.

"I wanted to gain office experience and see what working in finance is really like day to day."

His Role: Will became a valuable support to the lending team by reviewing commercial loan documentation and observing key aspects of loan operations. His willingness to ask questions and dive into technical details gave him a deeper understanding of both the customer experience and internal compliance processes within banking.

Highlights of His Role:

  • Reviewed and assisted with commercial loan documentation
  • Gained hands-on exposure to banking systems and daily operations
  • Collaborated with team members to better understand client servicing and loan lifecycle

Career Outlook: Will hopes to find a finance role that balances professional fulfillment with long-term financial security.

Grant T. - Consumer Lending Intern

Major: Finance | Year: Junior

Grant’s internship experience in the Consumer Lending department was a true deep dive into banking operations. From customer outreach to competitive research and even teller-line shadowing, he took on a wide range of responsibilities with confidence and professionalism.

"My goal was to develop speaking and leadership skills while building relationships in the banking world." - Grant T.

His Role: Grant stood out for his initiative and versatility. He led an e-statement campaign, monitored key deposit accounts, and contributed to product research. His involvement helped improve customer communication and ensured BOS remained competitive in its consumer offerings.

  • Assisted with dormant and high-balance CD account monitoring
  • Conducted an e-statement campaign with customers
  • Performed market research to keep BOS products competitive

Career Outlook: Grant’s goal is to find a career that allows him to live comfortably, stay grounded in the South, and provide for the life he envisions.

Malari S. – Building Services Intern

Year: Upcoming High School Junior

Malari interned with the Building Services team, where she rolled up her sleeves and made a big impact through hands-on work that helped maintain and improve BOS facilities.

"This summer I helped fix things and worked on making the buildings look better by doing things like painting rails and signs, pressure washing concrete, picking up trash, and much more." - Malari S.

Her Role: Malari took on physical tasks that directly contributed to the appearance, safety, and functionality of BOS locations. From improving signage to refreshing high-traffic areas, her hands-on support helped create a more welcoming environment for both customers and staff. 

Highlights of Her Role:

  • Painted signs, rails, and high-traffic areas to improve visibility and curb appeal
  • Pressure washed concrete walkways and building exteriors
  • Picked up litter and assisted with general upkeep
  • Supported repairs and hands-on maintenance tasks alongside the Building Services team
  • Contributed to overall cleanliness, professionalism, and safety of BOS facilities

Career Outlook: Malari hopes to pursue a career in pediatric nursing, where she can combine her love for learning with a desire to help others. She’s passionate about making a difference in children's lives and is open to exploring new interests as she continues her education.

"Don’t be scared to get things done that need done. If you see something that needs doing and you can do it, go for it. If you’re unsure, just ask!" - Malari S

 


  

Joey S. – Insurance Services Intern

Major: Business Administration | Year: Junior

Joey joined the Insurance Department this summer, bringing a strong work ethic and a curiosity to explore the financial services field more deeply. His responsibilities included researching property appraisals and filling out Home Quote Sheets, essential steps in helping customers find the right coverage.

"I hope to gain more confidence in my abilities and get a clearer understanding of what I like and do not like for a potential career." - Joey S.

His Role: Joey demonstrated both precision and professionalism in his work, supporting key operations within the Insurance Department. His hands-on experience gave him valuable insight into how personal lines of insurance function within a community bank setting.

Career Outlook: Joey is still exploring his ideal career path but knows it will involve working with numbers and helping others. He’s focused on long-term growth, learning, and making an impact.

At BOS, we aim to provide meaningful, hands-on experiences that equip students with real-world skills, professional confidence, and a clearer sense of their future path. Jake, Will, Grant, Malari, and Joey each brought something special to their roles, from analytical thinking and attention to detail to hands-on problem solving and creativity. Their energy, curiosity, and dedication made a lasting impact across departments, and their stories highlight the strength of pairing opportunities with mentorship.
