Any sort of travel involves planning, whether that’s hitting the road or flying off to your favorite destination. Here are some quick and easy tips to make sure you have a smooth travel experience and keep yourself financially safe.

1. Set up a travel saving account.

If you travel regularly or planning for a big vacation, be sure to set up a travel savings account. It is recommended that you save a little more than what you think you will need. The best way to fund your travel savings account is to set up a monthly automatic transfer or fund the account weekly. When it’s time for your trip, you can move the funds into your checking account with online and mobile banking.

2. Set travel alerts with your bank!

Be sure to notify us of your travel plans so your transactions aren’t blocked. To make it easier on you, we have added a ‘Manage Travel Plans’ feature in the BOS Mobile App. You will want to give us the details of where you will be traveling and using your card, when you will be traveling and returning, and your most up-to-date phone number. If you’re traveling within the US, ask us if they offer an option for you to set your travel plans through your mobile banking app.

3. Stop by your local bank for cash.

Carrying some cash is a good idea to help stay inside your budget and for taxis, snacks, tipping, etc. If you need foreign currency, make sure to stop by your local branch at least 7 to 10 days before you depart on your trip so it can be ordered and arrive on time.

4. Update your digital wallet.

Before you head out, make sure all your forms of payment are uploaded to your phone’s digital wallet to ensure you can use them if needed. Speed up your waiting time at the airport and make sure your boarding passes are accessible digitally too!
