Spotlighting Bright Futures Ahead

This summer the #BOSFamily was lucky enough to work alongside six incredibly bright and driven interns, Addison E., Elizabeth M., Joey S., Malari S., Michael V., and Nick P.

What made this group unique was the sheer variety of their aspirations, some are preparing for careers in finance, while others are pursuing paths in marketing, healthcare, and even architecture. 

Take a look at what they worked on this summer, what they learned along the way, and where their aspirations are taking them next!


Meet Addison E. – Wealth & Planning Intern

Dream Job: Accounting Professional

Addison, an accounting major, spent her summer shadowing wealth management specialists and supporting client service initiatives.

  • Favorite Part of BOS: "The people have been so welcoming and enjoyable to work with! I love the positive environment."
  • Key Takeaway: "I gained invaluable hands-on experience seeing how textbook knowledge translates into real-world client scenarios. It really strengthened my communication skills."
  • What Surprised Her: "The wide range of services the bank provides. I was exposed to everything from investment management and estate planning to portfolio analysis and insurance."
  • Advice for Future Interns "Be open to learning absolutely everything and never be afraid to ask questions!"

Meet Elizabeth M. – Marketing Intern

Dream Job: Marketing & Advertising Professional

This summer, Elizabeth has been an invaluable asset to our marketing team. She has driven our community outreach efforts, designed impactful marketing materials, and mastered the end-to-end strategy behind executing successful events.

  • Favorite Part of BOS: "I love the genuine connection the staff members have with each other. The community here was even friendlier than I expected!"
  • Key Takeaway: "I have learned a lot about the massive amount of preparation and coordination it takes to successfully host a community event." 
  • Mentors on the Team: "My supervisor, Chelsea, has helped me learn so much about the marketing industry."
  • Fun Fact: "When I am out of the office, I love going to live concerts and spending time outdoors."

Meet Joey S. – CRA Intern

Dream Job: Pro-Sports Office Professional

Joey spent his summer in our Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) department, diving into regulatory reporting and evaluating how the bank supports small and large local businesses. 

  • Favorite Part of BOS: "Taking a trip down to Glen Carbon to sit in on meetings. I also loved how incredibly helpful and communicative everybody has been while working with me."
  • Key Takeaway: "Assisting with monthly loan reporting and reviewing lending activity taught me a lot about financial literacy, teamwork, and the best ways to build credit."
  • Fun Fact: "I love playing and watching soccer. My ultimate dream job is working in the front office for a professional sports team."
  • Advice for Future Interns: "Don’t be afraid to ask questions!"

Meet Malari S. – Building Services Intern

Dream Job: Anesthesiologist Assistant

Malari spent the summer keeping our operations running smoothly, tackling everything from electrical work and painting to major appliance installations across our branches.

  • Favorite Part of BOS: "The people. Everyone I interacted with this summer has been so nice and welcoming. I was also surprised by just how many branches and people it takes to run the bank."
  • Key Takeaway: "I learned so many new hands-on skills, including how to safely change a ballast in a ceiling light. I love having a wide range of knowledge."
  • Fun Fact: "I like to learn new and useful skills, and a hobby of mine is making paracord survival bracelets."
  • Advice for Future Interns: Meet as many people as possible! People are what make a job enjoyable, and making friends will help the hours fly by."

Meet Michael V. – Commercial Lending Intern 

Dream Job: Golf Course Architect

Michael spent his summer analyzing financials and asset values, diving straight into core credit and lending operations at BOS.

  • Favorite Part of BOS: "The work environment and getting to know my coworkers. The sheer amount of experience I have gained from being an intern here really surprised me."
  • Key Takeaway: "I got to work on credit spreads, loan applications, property evaluations, and even helped out with the FSA audit. (Plus, I mastered using the office printer!)" 
  • Fun Fact: "I love to play golf, and my ultimate dream job would be a Golf Course Architect."
  • Advice for Future Interns: "Use your resources and learn as much as possible!"

Meet Nick P. – Financial Reporting & IT Intern

Dream Job: Investment Banker

Nick spent his summer bridging finance and tech at BOS, managing branch asset inventories and assisting with the rollout of our new phone system.

  • Favorite Part of BOS: "How connected everyone is here. Just walking through the bank, you will always see people you know and stop to say hi to. My favorite part has been building those relationships."
  • Mentors on the Team: "Sam has helped me a bunch with day-to-day questions, and Neil has helped me gain a better understanding of how IT works."
  • Fun Fact: "In my free time, I like to golf, hang out with family and friends, and research companies to invest in the stock market."
  • Advice for Future Interns: "Have fun, get to know people, and don’t be afraid to ask questions!"

At BOS, our goal is always to provide meaningful, hands-on experiences that give students real-world skills, professional confidence, and a clearer sense of where they want to go next.  

As Nick, Malari, Elizabeth, Addison, Michael, and Joey head back to school, we want to say a massive thank you for the energy, curiosity, and hard work they brought to BOS every single day. We are incredibly grateful for the time they spent with us, and we can’t wait to see what they accomplish moving forward.
